Desk setup guides

Build a desk you want to sit at.

Guides to monitor arms, desks, chairs, lighting and cable management, built around what decides a purchase: your desk, your space and how you work.

By the Setup Gear HQ Team

A good desk setup is a hundred small decisions: the arm that holds your monitor, the tray that hides the cables, the light that saves your eyes at night. Setup Gear HQ is built for those decisions, from a first home office to a desk you are proud to show.

What we cover

  • Monitor arms and mounts

  • Standing desks and chairs

  • Desk lighting

  • Cable management and desk accessories

What our guides are built on

Two kinds of source go into every guide. The first is what the maker publishes: specifications, manuals and support documentation. The second is the owner communities, where the problems that only appear after months at the desk get reported. Where a guide reflects our own time with a product, it states that clearly.

Every pick says who it is not for.

Alongside each recommendation, you will find the buyer it would not suit and the reason behind it.

Ratings and prices are left out.

Star ratings and scores hide the trade-off that matters for your desk, and prices change from one day to the next, so product links take you to the live listing.

How the site is funded

Setup Gear HQ is supported by its readers. If you buy through one of our links, we may earn a commission, and the price you pay stays the same. Recommendations and placements are not for sale to brands, and should a manufacturer ever send us a product, the review will mention it. The affiliate disclosure has the details.

Something changed since we wrote it?

Desks and arms get revised, a firmware update can change how a monitor or a light behaves, and retailers swap one listing for another. If you find a spec, a compatibility note or a link that no longer holds, send us a note. We will look into it and correct the guide.
